A Grand from The Grand

Racing Te Aroha, in partnership with New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing, is excited to introduce a brand-new Jockeys’ competition as part of the inaugural Great New Zealand Jumps Carnival on Friday 19 and Sunday 21 September. Aptly named “A Grand from The Grand”, the initiative will see Jockeys accumulate points across both days of the Carnival, with the overall winner receiving a $1,000 cash prize proudly sponsored by The Grand Tavern - a much-loved Te Aroha community hub. To further reward consistency, $700 will be awarded to the second-placed Jockey and $300 to the third.

A Grand from The Grand Scoring System

  • Highweights: 1st = 4 points, 2nd = 2 points, 3rd = 1 point
  • Jumps Races: 1st = 6 points, 2nd = 3 points, 3rd = 1 point
  • Feature Races: 1st = 12 points, 2nd = 6 points, 3rd = 2 points
