Andrew is presently employed as an investment advisor at Forsyth Barr in Cambridge. Prior to this role, he worked as a lawyer and sports administrator. As a passionate thoroughbred owner, Andrew brings a diverse background to the table. He has served as the Chief Executive of the Chiefs Rugby Club and possesses extensive experience in fan engagement, sports management, and entertainment.

Dean is currently engaged as a consultant for the International Monetary Fund, following his previous positions within the Inland Revenue Department. With his background as the former president of the Otago Racing Club and a board member of GallopSouth,Dean brings together a wealth of racing administration expertise and knowledge. His international experience complements his longstanding involvement in thoroughbred ownership and breeding pursuits.

Di joined the Board in November 2024 and is an experienced Director /Chair who has been working in governance since 2002. Throughout her governance and executive roles, she has worked with multi-faceted organisations across retail, e-commerce, sports, education, wholesale, manufacturing and tourism.

Louise brings a wealth of experience in property development, regeneration, and project management. She currently serves on the Tāmaki Regeneration Company Board, leading one of the country’s most significant community redevelopment programmes delivering more than 10,000 homes in partnership with iwi, Council, and Government. A lifelong equestrian and racing syndicate member, Louise offers a strong community perspective shaped by her work in major urban regeneration projects.

Russell Warwick joined the NZTR Board in June 2024 following his appointment by the Members’ Council. As General Manager of Westbury Stud, he brings extensive experience across thoroughbred breeding, racing operations and industry administration. His leadership of one of New Zealand’s leading breeding and racing operations, together with his strong commercial and industry knowledge, provides valuable insight to the Board.

A Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors, Struan Abernethy is a seasoned executive leader and governance professional with extensive experience across digital marketing, sport, and professional services. He previously served as Chair of the Make-A-Wish Foundation NZ and has held senior leadership positions in both New Zealand and Australia, including as Global CEO of the Leading Edge Group. An active racing enthusiast and horse owner, Abernethy combines deep commercial experience with a genuine passion for the sport.

Matt Ballesty has a vast commercial career and has held several senior executive roles internationally across Australia, Macau and Canada. Prior to joining NZTR as CEO in March 2025, Matt was the Managing Director of Three Points Consulting. His passion for racing as both an owner and enthusiast combined with commercial and corporate expertise underpins his commitment to ensuring the racing industry reaches its full potential in New Zealand.
