New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR) acknowledges the resignation of Geoff Vazey from the NZTR Members’ Council. Geoff served on the Council for six years, and more recently held the role of Chair.
NZTR Board Chair Russell Warwick said Geoff’s contribution to the Members’ Council and the wider industry had been significant.
“Over the past six years, Geoff has brought strong governance experience, sound judgement and a clear, strategic perspective to the Members’ Council. We thank him for his service and the commitment he has shown to the industry and wish him all the best for the future.”
Incoming Chair Bernard Hickey, who was previously Deputy Chair, has now taken on the role, providing continuity of leadership for the Council.
Bernard acknowledged Geoff’s contribution and decision to step down.
“I respect Geoff’s decision, particularly as he looks to rebalance his commitments and spend more time with family and other pursuits. Geoff has been a true professional and a highly respected member of the Council. His corporate experience, logical thinking and measured approach will be missed.”
Bernard said he was looking forward to continuing the work of the Council alongside Members and industry participants.
“I encourage Clubs, Recognised Industry Members and participants to continue engaging with their area delegates. Open, constructive dialogue is critical as we work together to progress positive outcomes for the racing industry.”
A replacement for Geoff will be sought later in the year through the usual nominations process, when vacancies arising through term completion or retirement are considered.
