Proudly sponsored byThe 1% Welfare Levy funded by the thoroughbred industry, the multi-discipline event provides recently retired thoroughbreds a welcoming competitive environment, all while celebrating the breed's amazing versatility.
All horses will be challenged to a dressage test in the morning, then a show jumping course which flows immediately into cross country, both over 80cm. The winner combination will take home $3000, with $1,200 to 2nd place and $800 to third. There is also a $1000 jackpot up for grabs if the winning horse was sourced from an NZTR Acknowledged Re-Trainer. If the winning horse isn’t obtained through a retrainer, the money will jackpot to the following year.
Strengthening the connection between the equestrian community and the racing and breeding industries was the primary goal for the event, which is the brainchild of Justine Sclater, NZTR's Head of Welfare and Sustainability, and her team.
"We're delighted by the number of entries for our inaugural event" Sclater said, "We're looking forward to seeing it expand and grow in the coming years."
Acknowledging the breeders, owners and trainers that have been involved with each horse recognises just how many different individuals are involved with a thoroughbred, before, during and after it's racing career.
