Project Stamina continues to progress, with consultants RCP having completed an extensive first phase of engagement. Approximately 50 meetings were held nationwide, both in person and online, involving stakeholders from across the Thoroughbred and Harness codes. This included racing clubs, Recognised Industry Organisations, and the Racing Integrity Board. These sessions were focused on listening to stakeholders, testing assumptions, and building a clear, shared understanding of the current state of racing and training infrastructure.
That feedback has now been consolidated and is informing the next phase of the project. RCP is currently working closely with the Boards of New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing and Harness Racing New Zealand to progress scenario modelling. This stage is focused on developing future-state options for how infrastructure could be structured and prioritised to best support the long-term needs of the industry.
Further engagement will take place as this work develops, ensuring stakeholders continue to have input as options are refined. Updates will be provided at key milestones.
Project Stamina is a unified, nationwide masterplan for racing and training infrastructure across New Zealand. It sets out a long-term view of where and how the industry should invest across both the Thoroughbred and Harness codes, linking those decisions to reliable tracks, a consistent racing product, stronger wagering performance, and sustainable revenue to reinvest back into the sport.
Jointly led at CEO and Board level by New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing and Harness Racing New Zealand, with the support of TAB NZ, Project Stamina reflects a coordinated, whole-of-industry approach to infrastructure planning and investment. It is focused on ensuring the sector is financially sustainable, operationally resilient, and well positioned for the future.
